Tea exports fell by 6.62 per cent to 19.02 million kg in January this year from 20.37 million kg in the corresponding month a year ago, according to Tea Board data. By value, exports fell 4.14 per cent. Most of the tea exported by India is of the crushed-tear-curl type. Pakistan’s imports from India dipped 34.61 per cent to 1.36 million kg from 2.08 million kg in January last year.
“The dip in exports to Pakistan has made a significant impact on the overall export figures,” said the senior adviser to the Federation of All India Tea Traders’ Association.
Exports to Russia fell 5.41 per cent to 3.51 million kg in January this year from 3.70 million kg in the same period a year earlier. During the month, exports to the UK, Germany and Iran also dipped in terms of quantity.
