After more than three years of planned rose exports from Rwanda’s Gishari Flower Park in Rwamagana District, ‘encouraging’ flower shipments have been exported to key European markets.
Since production started in July, the project managed by Bella Flowers, has shipped over 1.7 million stems of roses. Only six hectares of the park are currently in production.
The flower farm is expected to produce at least 44 million stems per year. More than 65 per cent of the roses produced so far have been exported to Europe through the world’s leading flower market in the Netherlands.
She said the firm is, however, targeting other export markets outside Europe, in Asia and Africa. They are presently exporting five varieties of roses, but plan to expand to 15 varieties in the near future.
