Exports of Robusta coffee beans from Vietnam are running ahead of last year’s pace. The Vietnamese government forecast July exports at 130,000 tonnes, up 17% year on year.
The year-on-year rise in exports has less to do with production, than with accelerated farmer selling after a long period of hoarding, in response to low prices.
So far this season, Vietnamese exports are some 30% over the rate of last year, at 1.45m tonnes, according to the country’s General Statistics Office said in a monthly report.
