IndianPrime Minister Narendra Modi said development of ports is essential to promote exports from India and take the ‘Made in India’ brand global. The recently elected PM was speaking as he laid the foundation of a special economic zone (SEZ) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai.

The port-based SEZ will receive an investment of Rs 4000 crore through public-private partnership and is expected to generate 1.5 lakh jobs, according to the government. It will be spread over 277 hectares of land near JNPT, the largest freight container port in India.
