China’s Customs General Administration (CGA) says that China imported around 2.24 million tons of rice in the calendar year 2013, which is about 5% less than the 2.36 million tons in 2012. According to the CGA, China also exported around 478,370 tons of rice in 2013. China’s rice imports declined in the second half of 2013.

China National Grain and Oils Information Centre says that China’s rice imports in 2013 were mainly due to lower global rice prices and expects rice imports to remain at around 2.24 million tons in 2014.
