Railways in India have earned Rs 59,069.73 crore from freight traffic during April-November 2013, compared with Rs 53,923.37 cr during the corresponding period last year. This represents a 7.9% in rail freight traffic.
The national rail company carried 677.58 million tonnes (MT) of commodity freight during April-November as compared to 647.01 MT carried during the corresponding period last year. This is a volume increase of about 4.7 %.
The Railway Ministry of India data shows that, out of the total earnings of Rs 7880.44 cr from commodity freight during November 2013, Rs 3293.18 cr came from transportation of 39.91 MT of coal. The next largest category was Rs 874.23 cr from 10.58 MT of iron ore for exports and for domestic users.
