From 1 January 2014, all freight vehicles over 3.5 tonnes will have to pay an extra road tax in France.  If vehicles are not registered, they may have pay a fine of up to 750 euros for a first offence.  This is likely to cause a problem for UK freight operators, as registration requires a Certificate of Conformity to prove the emissions rating and class of engine.  Although this is issued with every new vehicle in many European countries, there is no UK equivalent document.
