Although overall trade through terminals on the River Thames fell by 10% during 2012, container freight traffic increased.  One of the largest cargo handling facilities on the river, Coryton closed during the year, which reduced cargo volumes considerably.  Freight volumes are expected to increase with the opening of London Gateway container port.
