The first public sector strikes in Norway for 30 years affected freight and shipping, as harbour pilots, crane drivers and train drivers joined in the dispute. Some police forces in the cities of Trondheim, Tromsoe and Bergen took part in the strikes but the action does not have 100% support.
Exports of oil, one of the main sources of wealth for Norway, have been affected and can be delayed where harbour pilots refuse to work. Most municipal workers are expected to start work again having reached an agreement yesterday, but other unions working in the transport sector are still causing disruption.
