The port of Cork in Ireland has invested heavily in new equipment, enabling it to welcome the first direct shipping service from South America.  Weekly services will carry mainly exports of bananas, which have not been shipped direct to Ireland for 30 years.

Port managers say that the new investment has enabled them to greatly increase efficiency both in imports and exports.
