The London members of the Freight Transport Association fear that the Olympic Games in 2012 may cause difficulties for UK logistics and transport firms. Although the Games will cause increased demand for delivery of goods, the Olympics authorities have placed greater restrictions on delivery times in London, in some cases shutting completely the delivery window for freight consignments. This will make it difficult for freight operators to supply the goods which will be demanded by the extra tourists visiting London.
Many retailers will actually be staying open for longer hours to meet demand, with logistics companies having fewer hours to satisfy their needs.
With the Paralympics taking place as well, there will be an approximately 100 day period when logistics suppliers have more demand and less time in which to satisfy it.
