MCA – Maritime and Coastguard Agency
This Government Agency works to prevent the loss of life on the coast and at sea. It produces legislation and guidance on maritime matters, and provides certification to seafarers.
The MCA is sponsored by the Department of Transport, and is responsible for the safety of everybody in a vessel in UK waters and the safety of all seafarers on UK flagged vessels, together with various documentary and environmental responsibilities.
Under the SOLAS VI regulations effective from 1st July 2016 the MCA administer method 2 approval applications to verify VGM – Verified Gross Mass as a ‘Verified Weigher’
