Treasury Wine Estates CEO Michael Clarke says that China’s free trade deal with Australia will bring major benefits to the company, and the entire Australian wine industry.

But he said a lack of harmonisation between customs officials in Australia and China meant the company was often faced with lengthy hold-ups for their exports at ports and airports.

“It’s good news for all Australian players who export brands into China, it’s clearly going to be good for us,” Mr Clarke said.

“It would be fantastic if we can get the government officials to work collaboratively with countries where Australians export brands and ensure the bureaucracy doesn’t take four months to clear customs, clearly that would help all parties concerned.”
