Open-access rail freight operator Cargolink of Norway ceased operations on February 11 after the company’s board decided to file for insolvency.

Founded in 2008, the company operated freight trains across Norway, including regular intermodal services from the terminal at Alnabru in Oslo to Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger and Ã…ndalsnes on the West Coast of Norway.

In a statement, Cargolink said it has struggled financially in the face of “challenging competitive conditions.”

The freight company employed 70 staff and the NLF train driver’s union has said it will help drivers at Cargolink and Train Link to find alternative employment.

Other railfreight operators are expected to take over Cargolink’s business.
