Chinese locomotive manufacturer China Railway Rolling Stock has awarded a contract to Rolls-Royce worth more than €30m to deliver a total of 100 MTU Series 4000 engines. CRRC will equip the 16V 4000 R43 type engines in 100 freight locomotives, which are being built as part of the contract with main contractor China Machinery Engineering.
Following completion, the locomotives will be exported to Argentina for service with Belgrano Cargas y Logisticas of the Argentinian Ministry of Interior and Transport.
The new order follows a contract from South African operator Transnet for 232 engines for freight locomotives and 48 engines for freight locomotives for New Zealand rail operator Kiwi Rail, as well as an earlier order by Argentina’s Ministry of Interior and Transport for 20 locomotive engines.
