South Australia’s export sector, which has created more than 200,000 jobs, will help turn around the state’s economic fortunes, the government says. Almost 30 per cent of SA’s workforce is linked to interstate and overseas exports and tourism, Investment and Trade Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith says.

He says exports could help bolster SA’s economy against the end of local car manufacturing and the collapse in global commodity prices. “A lesser-known success story is … the production of food, wine, advance manufacturing and services,” Mr Hamilton-Smith said this week.

“Our exports in these sectors have risen by 10 per cent, fuelled by an increasing global demand for our premium produce and expertise in services industries.”
