Norway’s seafood export sector experienced a notable downturn in January 2026, with total export values reaching NOK 14.8 billion (USD 1.53 billion, EUR 1.30 billion), representing a 3 per cent decline compared to the previous year. This decrease of NOK 416 million (USD 43 million) highlights the ongoing challenges facing Norwegian seafood exporters, particularly in the crucial US market.

The contraction in export value underscores the importance of diversified market strategies for freight forwarders handling temperature-sensitive cargo. As global seafood trade patterns shift, logistics providers must adapt to changing demand dynamics and ensure efficient cold chain solutions remain in place.

Understanding these trade patterns is essential for optimising routing decisions and providing competitive freight solutions to seafood exporters navigating uncertain market conditions.
