The opening of the Trans Mountain Expansion project earlier this year may minimize the initial impact on oil supplies from an expected Canadian rail strike. The US usually imports its oil supplies from Canada via rail freight.
The possibility of a disruption in rail service comes as Canada’s two main railway companies say they may start locking out workers Thursday if they don’t reach an agreement with the union representing engineers, conductors and yard workers after the union delivered a strike notice over the weekend.
