Egyptian lemon exports reached 100 thousand tons this season; the biggest market for Egyptian lemons being Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia accounts for about half of export volumes but other Gulf countries also import large quantities. The local Baladi variety, also known as Benzhair variety is renowned for its unique flavor and aroma, thinner skin, and more intense, acidic taste than other lemon varieties. It is widely produced exported fresh and dried.
Russia comes in as 2nd largest importer, with around 10,000 tonnes.
