The Federation of Portuguese Agri-Food Industries (FIPA) has said that the domestic market is small and is calling for investment in the sector’s exports, which it said could total €10 billion by 2026.

“The sector has worked in this sphere in which the market is extremely small and highly competitive,” said the FIPA president, Jorge Henriques, in an interview with Lusa. “I often say that it’s a small market with a very narrow gateway. So we have to look for other solutions, which can come from exports, for example.”

Portugal needs to invest in a “serious, concentrated and professional” way in this sector, which last year had exports of more than €7 billion.
