An on-line retail giant is developing a freight delivery system, which will deliver packages within 30 minutes. The drones – or octocopters – could carry freight items weighing up to 2.3 kg and operate in a ten mile radius from a fulfilment centre. In urban areas a large proportion of the goods could be carried like this, with less impact on the environment than using freight trucks.
