Turkey’s reliance on customers in the Middle East has tripled during the past decade.  It sells approximately one fifth of its exports to the area.  The civil ware in Syria and conflict in Egypt are threatening this trade: having lost the traditional road route through Syria, Turkish freight lorries were then shipped to Egypt. Since the conflict, Turkish exports through Egypt have dropped by as much as 30 per cent.
