The LCFD, which was originally used to encourage companies to move freight from containers to rail, has now been extended to include coastal and short sea shipping.  The European Regional Development Fund has provided funding to offer incentives to shippers to move containers by sea instead of by road.  The project offers shippers a dividend of up to 30% to a maximum of 90 containers per company.
