The freight industry has expressed concern over government plans to make part of the A14 – which links Felixstowe to the rest of the country – wider.  The development will be funded partly by government and partly by private finance, and the intention is to recover the investment by a toll.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) cautiously welcomed the announcement but warned against placing increased costs on freight operators. The organisation says it views the move to charge tolls as a significant policy shift by the government, which had previously ruled out tolls except for new road schemes.
