Hyderabad in India is aiming to become the main air freight hub for the country. Airlines are increasing their freighter services to and from Hyderabad, improving links with East and North Asia.

The airport is within two hours flying time of every other major airport in India, which would make it an ideal gateway for air cargo. The operating company has already set up feeder services for transhipment by road.

Traffic is increasing: in 2002-03, the airport handled 20,728 tonnes of freight. By 2006-07, this had risen to 46,411 tonnes and in 2010-11, it handled 80,777 tonnes. Hyderabad’s cargo terminal is India’s first modular integrated freight facility, providing capacity for 150,000 million tonnes a year.
