The Manchester Ship Canal is being developed as a logistics hub, in order to minimise costs and Carbon emissions.  So far, freight containers have been shipped on barges, but last week a tanker of chemicals was loaded on to a barge and shipped to Runcorn.

This shipping mode is ideal for heavy and over-sized cargo, and it is hoped that project forwarding will be a promising development.
