Rosslare port in Ireland has experienced a 446% increase in freight moving directly to the Continent, in spite of road routes
via the GB landbridge being quicker.
The Irish Marine Development Office estimates that 150,000 freight truck crossings go annually via the GB landbridge.
Freight forwarders have been using services from Rosslare to the French ports of Dunkirk and Cherbourg avoiding the GB landbridge from 1 January, when extra checks for freight between GB and the EU were introduced. Rosslare port is making extensive developments to increase capacity and functionality for the larger volumes of freight.
