The Chartered Institue of Logisitics and Transport has cautiously welcomed Government’s plans to consult on charging foreign freight lorries using UK roads.

The Institute says that this would help the competitiveness of the UK freight and logistics industry and prepare for a new way of taxing commercial vehicles.   It hopes for a fairer system of taxation, as currently private cars and commercial freight vehicles are taxed in the same way, although they are used for quite different purposes.
