Bike imports increased significantly in recent months, according to U.S. Department of Commerce figures, but importers are still struggling to make up for reduced shipments earlier in the year plus unprecedented demand from retailers and consumers.

The import figures released this week show year-to-date imports during June were up just 3.1% over the same period last year, in units

In March and April this year, bike imports fell from 2019, by 29% and 31%, respectively, usually because of Asian factory shutdowns in January and February. Imports recovered in May and June, but not by the quantities needed to replenish warehouses. Most importers say they are ordering large quantities, but not too large, as upcoming demand is impossible to forecast.
