The Freight Transport Association has expressed fears that freight services may suffer when the railways are re-organised.  An interim report identified £1 billion worth of savings in the railways to help ensure the long-term health of the industry.  The FTA fears that the re-organisation will focus on passenger operations, which could lead to second-class service to freight.  Theresa Villiers, UK Rail Minister, claimed that the government was aware of the importance of rail freight growth.  She said ‘Getting it right for passengers, when it comes to railways, just isn’t enough, rail freight matters too.’
