The Union Railway company is planning to construct a railway network which will link all the Emirates for both passenger and freight transport.  The project will run through Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi – the emirates have earmarked Dh 304.4 bn for transport infrastructure investments, intending to instigate an era of truly integrated multimodal logistics.  When the line connected Jenel Ali port with the new Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi and Port Saqr in Ras el Khaima, it will increase efficient and reduce the shipping sector’s impact on the environment.  The freight corridor should bring considerable environmental benefits and reduce heavy road traffic between the emirates.
