Shippers’ representatives have strongly criticised the proposal to carry out screening on 100% on air freight cargo.  The European Shippers council says that screening is the most inefficient way to detect a threat and will slow up the supply chain to an unacceptable level.  The current regulations in the US and Europe require information about the freight, its origins and destination, the people handling it and its route to be sent in advance of the cargo’s arrival. The multi-tiered approach to air freight security is considered more effective than scanning everything, and shippers are concerned that the air freight industry will collapse under the weight of delay and increased cost.
