Trade measures to improve market access for agricultural exports is one of the main high points for farmers in Australia’s Budget.

The Treasurer announced $29.4 million towards program for “high export growth potential” products, to help get Australian food and fibre exports.

A high proportion of that will be directed to tackling export protocols which often inhibit some of the benefits of new trade deals and free trade arrangements.

The Government is allocating $11.4 million to reduce technical and scientific barriers which restrict export market access, particularly for fruit and vegetables from Australia.

The Government has pledged to extend a package which assists small, boutique exporters, helping open up markets for high-value export goods.
