Transport workers in Finland returned to work yesterday after a one-day strike.  The drivers’ strike, which affected both passenger transport and freight, brought Finland to a standstill as the union registered dissatisfaction with their pay offer.  The matter was resolved by the Government mediator, but the strike-prone country is now once again paralysed by the port-workers, who have instituted an open-ended national stoppage.  The country’s manufacturing industry, which relies heavily on exports, is forecasting financial disaster.  Meanwhile, consumers are like to suffer from shortages in the food stores, which rely on imports for fresh goods.
