The latest survey on the efficient global movement of goods by the World Bank suggests that high income economies are better at logistics efficiency.  The Logistics Performance Indicator showed Germany at the top, followed by other developed economies, whilst China was top of the East Asian region.  The efficiency of logistics often seems to be affected by the quality of public sector institutions, particularly Customs.  In some of the countries which are lower in the league table, containers are physically inspected with much more frequency.   Areas for improvement include: transport policies, freight forwarding, railways and supporting infrastructure.
