While volumes of traffic are falling within Scandinavia, as they are in the rest of the world, rail freight operators remain determined to continue services as usual. One of the main operators considered switching its daily Gothenburg – Oslo service from rail to road, but managed to secure volume guarantees from major customers, who wanted to keep the freight on rail for environmental reasons. In Sweden, freight volumes have been adversely affected because of its greater dependence on the car industry, but Norway has not been so badly affected. The Norwegian post office uses the seven-train a day service from Oslo to Bergen, which helps to keep the service viable and the Oeresund Link between Denmark Sweden gives rail links to the whole of Europe.
