Gothenburg, the largest ro-ro port in Sweden, is aiming to switch about 10% of all trailers arriving there on to the train.  Until now, 45% of shipping containers have been carried by rail, but it has been more expensive and more difficult to move trailer freight in the same way.  Gothenburg has invested in new rolling-stock which takes mixed loads of trailer and containers, and will connect with Vaennaes (north), Helsingborg (south-west) and Eskilstuna (central Sweden.)  The Port management is hoping that freight forwarders, logistics providers and shippers will be encouraged to use this method, which would take about 60,000 freight trailers off the road every day.
