The National Research Centre for Banana in India focussed its Foundation Day on banana exports.
It teamed up with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority and a banana producer to export bananas through sea ports last year.The post-harvest technology is now available to other exporters.
Development of pre and post harvest technologies have significantly increased India’s marketing of the fruit to the level of other banana-exporting countries. But the extent of handling and marketing are negligible in proportion to the production.
The research centre fixed ‘banana export prospects’ as the theme for the Foundation Day.
