A Mexican trade delegation travelled to China to complete talks which will allow more banana, pork and sorghum exports, a top Mexican agriculture trade official said last week.

The talks, which centre on health and safety protocols, come at a sensitive time for Mexico; negotiations about a new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the United States and Canada have stalled.

The head of international trade for Mexico’s agriculture ministry, was traveling to China to conclude the negotiations, which he said were prompted by changes among Chinese health and safety officials.
