Shrimp imports into the USA rose 5.7% in August compared with the previous year; major increases came from India, China and Vietnam though imports from Thailand, Indonesia and Ecuador fell.
The US imported 61,902 metric tons of shrimp in August 2017. By value, August 2017 imports totaled $610.3m, a 9.8% rise over the $555.4m in June 2016.
For the first eight months of 2017, imports, including all shrimp species and product forms, totaled 409,017t.
Prices are rising – in August 2017, the average price of shrimp imports was $9.85 per kilogram, whereas in August 2016 that same kilo only cost $9.47.
