Chilean fruit exports to Europe increased by 8.7% in 2016-17, but there were noticeable shifts in the distribution between markets.
The Chilean Fruit Exporters Association’s recently released statistics show that despite this upward trend, the leading European importer and re-exporter the Netherlands saw a 17% decline in volume arrivals.
This gave way to sharp rises in Chilean fruit imports in other EU markets such as Germany, Spain, Italy, France and Belgium.
England retained its position as the second-largest European import market for Chilean fruit. Russia was the third-largest European import market.
Red apples were the leading Chilean fruit export commodity in the Chilean market followed by table grapes .
