The Coalition Government’s first budget did not offer any particular consolation to the freight and shipping industries, particularly as the Freight Transport Association was hoping for a reprieve from the three planned increases in fuel duty in the next 11 months.  Although the Chancellor said that the Government would ‘support’ the transport and logistics industries, no clear indication was given as to how this would happen.  The Rail Freight Group was concerned about proposed cuts to the budget of the Department of Transport, which will probably have a detrimental affect on investment in transport infrastructure.
