The port of Gothenburg in Sweden is changing its status from a port operator to a landlord port, inviting other port operators throughout the world to tender.  The Gothenburg owned port authority will continue to own the land and infrastructure. There was a fall in traffic during 2009, although there was a slight recovery in volumes during the second half.  The proportion of freight carried by rail continued to increase.
