Last week the European freight forwarder association, CLECAT, had their annual meeting.  A representative of the Swedish government urged the EC to do away with restrictions on road cabotage, which they argued would greatly improve the efficiency of the road freight sector.  Road freight is considered to be more polluting than rail, and the rail groups argue that unlimited cabotage would make road transport more effective and discourage the use of rail freight which produces fewer emissions.
