The Logistics Institute of the University of Hull hosted the second conference of the Stratmos project yesterday. Stratmos is a project studying the feasibility of using Motorways of the Sea to reduce the carbon footprint of international shipping and transport within the Baltic region. Funded by the EU and the government of Norway, this project aims to improve the efficiency of modal shift to short sea shipping, and improve links with road and rail freight. The result of this should be to connect the coastal areas more efficiently to each other. The area runs from Flanders to North Norway, and there are also partners in Russia.
