The UK Chamber of Shipping believes that emissions trading is an effective way of encouraging shipping lines to reduce carbon outputs.  The Uk Chamber is now being supported in this view by shipping industry associations from Australia, Belgium, Norway, and Sweden.   The group has published a discussion paper about practical solutions for an emissions trading scheme; they argue that shipping is still the most efficient way to transport cargo, but it produces about 3% of all the carbon emissions produced by human activity.
