HS1 – the first high speed railway in Britain, which runs from the Channel Tunnel to St Pancras – is set to carry freight from as early as 2010.  A rail freight company has secured funding from the EU to help in the development of modifications to existing locomotives which will enable them to operate on the high speed railway.  It is hoped that the high speed rail service will entice logisitics providers to consider rail as a real alternative to road transport.
