In spite of lobbying by the Freight Transport Association,fuel duty rose on 1 April as planned by the Government.  The logistics sector is also due to be hit by a 9% increase in fees levied by the Vehicle Operating Services Agency; the combination of these two increases is likely to have a devastating effect on the already-struggling road freight businesses, who will face an increased cost of approximately £1500 per lorry, according to the FTA.
