Work on the expansion of the Felixstowe South terminal has so far consisted of demolition of old buildings and warehouses, but in September there was an official groundbreaking ceremony to mark the formal commencement of the project.  The terminal is planned to be in operation by 2010 and will enable the ports to handle bigger volumes of deep water shipping.  The development is situated in the oldest part of the Port of Felixstowe which was dug by hand in 1882.
