Last year Shanghai became the world’s biggest container shipping port by volume, taking over from Singapore.  Hong Kong remained in third place, but the volume of freight through Shenzhen increased dramatically by 23%.  There has been a strong recovery in exports from China, which accounts for the increased volume through Shanghai.  The economy of China expanded at an average 11.4 5 every year over the past five years; it has become the world’s biggest exporter.  Commentators say that there is enough business to keep Shanghai, Singapore, Shenzhen and Hong Kong busy.
